The Science of a job Search

"In search of your Dream Job" (New Book)

I. How to Find Your Dream Job
While servicing the business world as an Executive Search Consultant and Founder of the Domar Group, Inc, I have personally recruited and placed over 1,000 people in various positions and industries. I have worked with recent college graduates, MBA’s, Executive MBA’s, doctors, and executives. Knowing what you will be good at comes down to one thing, and that is trying something new no matter what. The pursuit of discovering a career that will bring satisfaction and great reward requires one’s willingness to be coachable.

Today’s competitive workforce requires being willing to put together a plan of action. You may not even know where to start and how to begin. This is why you should hire a career coach to help you create the framework for greatness. When was the last time you were pushed to the limit? When was the last time you invested your time, energy, and money to be at the top of your game? Finding your dream job requires exercising, conditioning, and being willing to see yourself as a successful person within the game of career development. No one in the game knows what the score is, only the outcome and what the possibilities will be to build a routine and rhythm to gain you a perfect “10.” (4)

Going for Gold
The journey of finding your dream job comes down to one thing: knowing what you want. As your coach, I want to encourage you to see yourself as victorious in your career venture. You are not alone in this. You must be willing to have the mental toughness to be committed to your goal. You must be willing and accountable to do your research, follow my lead, and follow through. While interviewing hundreds of people, I have had the opportunity to ask some very successful people about their passion and dream job. What was the one thing that helped guide them towards their respective successes? Most people had similar responses: they hated their old jobs, they were not satisfying, they hated their bosses, no growth potential, not enough money. These sounded all too familiar to me because I happened to be one of these individuals. I was in a job I enjoyed, but it was not a job I fell in love with. During that time, I was sick and tired of being miserable I sat down and started to write down all the things I was looking for in a dream job. You may be thinking, “How am I exactly going to get there?” All I knew is that I was starting to write out my wish list, and as I looked at it, I knew now that I was writing out what would become my game plan.

When asking people “What would you be doing that would be considered your dream job,” it was very surprising. Some of the professions I have listed on page 12 were positions people dreamed about. But how did they know the position was right for them? All of them shared the same response: it started with research.
Research required learning all that was needed to know about the profession, companies, and the people in charge of the organization and industry.
While this may give you a clue to a pattern of success, you will learn in the following pages a formula to landing your dream job. I would strongly encourage you to get a notebook that you will title, “My Dream Job,” in big letters along with your name, the day, the month, and the year. It is my intention that while reading this book you will be creating your journey to your dream job for life. So like every journey, you must make a commitment and be accountable for your desired outcome. For instance, if you are looking at getting in shape, you do not go to the gym for the first time and try to lift 300 lbs. or go to a high-impact workout class without knowing the routine. It takes commitment, a plan, and practice. Find a starting point that you feel comfortable with, show up, and make the decision to follow up with your plan. I want to encourage you to open your mind to all that is possible. Believe you can and you will. Find the excitement in trying to do things differently. This may feel strange. But trust me, try it, and you will see the results. To order your copy.
